Too much freedom :(

For the past couple of hours, I’ve been going through the USyd Science Handbook and jotting down all the subjects that I’d like to do in 2009; the final year of my undergraduate degree. And yes, I am considering this as time spent “studying”….

I haven’t really made my mind up as to what I want to major in, and if I want to do one or two majors (if two, then only one has to be at the Advanced level). So far I have come to conclusion that I will be doing a major in Neuroscience. Now, I have the option, do I do four other random third year subjects to fill up the two remaining spaces in each semester? Or do I do four subjects that relate to one discipline thereby qualifying me with a second major? I can potentially do a second major in either Anatomy, Physiology or Pharmacology.

But I’ve hit a concrete wall. Of the 14 subjects I want/can do, only 6 of them are conducted in Semester One, and only two of those 6 I actually want to do (the two Neuro ones). The remaining 8 are offered in second semester and I want to do all of them! Interestingly, one of those subjects is Behavioural & Cognitive Neuroscience (from the Psychology discipline) and that seems really really cool, especially because the co-ordinator for the subject, I had last semester for Psych and he had a really cool accent, lol… how petty.

The third issue is then, even if I choose to do Psych and any other of the cool subjects offered in Semester Two – that doesn’t solve my problem for semester one. I’m forced to pick between the boring Forensic Osteology + Visceral Anatomy and the even more excruciatingly painful paired Human Cellular Physiology subjects.

A Science degree is just too much freedom for me to handle.
